Okay, here's something wrote back in the mid 1980's. I recently found it while excavating through some old papers.
I'm kinda curious about what I was reading then.
temporal tantrum
I
stood in a room, where I was already seated, before I thought to walk in.
As I walked in, I stood up to leave, then sat down to watch myself go.
I
looked to my right, and saw myself standing, watching myself come in.
I
glanced where I was, and there I still am, looking at me follow behind.
I
turned back around, facing myself, and looked myself in the eye.
I
stared quietly back, and not liking my look, left as I was just walking in.
This next bit is the result of watching and listening to the oh-so-creepy televangelists. (Member FDIC)
Considering Religion
religion:
A belief system that gives
people comfort, solace, an explanation
of that which cannot easily be explained,
and for some, a reason for existence.
religion:
A codification of morality, conduct
and law which guides societal behavior.
religion:
A means of achieving control over
others, and shaping what people think, say
and do.
religion:
Heartfelt beliefs which are callously
exploited by those who profess to believe as
a lever to pry material gain from those that
truly believe.
religion:
An excuse for ignorance, intolerance
and hatred.
religion:
A reason to disaprove.
religion:
A way to 'bask in reflected 'glory.' '
religion:
Beliefs that one holds to, which
engender a feeling of connection to the world
around them.
religion:
A way to cope with that which is all
but beyond endurance.
religion:
A thing to make people hate who they are.
religion:
A reason not to reason.
A Question:
If a religious person does good deeds in the hope of a future reward, and an Atheist does good deeds without any expectation of reward, does that make the Atheist 'holier'?
Religion is what you make of it.
